In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Leir Institute for Migration and Human Security and Fletcher Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a screening of Prof. Katrina Burgess's 2019 documentary, Waylaid in Tijuana (waylaidintijuana.net). The screening will be followed by a panel discussion between Prof. Burgess and the Latin American Studies Program's Jorge E. Cuéllar, NEHC-Mellon Faculty of Color Working Group Fellow. Food will be served to attendees to close the event.

Waylaid in Tijuana explores how immigration policies adopted in Washington, DC reverberate just south of the border in Tijuana, Mexico. It features migrants and asylum seekers from Haiti and Central America, migration experts, government officials, and migrant advocates from the Tijuana/San Diego region who grapple with the consequences of these policies on a daily basis.
